NLP ComuniCat, Catalan language technology initiative

Catalan continues to be scarcely present in the voice assistants of mobile devices, and also in the so-called smart speakers such as Alexa or Google Home.

For this reason, a group of researchers at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre has created NLP ComuniCat, a community open to NLP developers, researchers and students. The aim of the initiative is to bring together the various tools available and create a network that connects professionals, researchers and students in the sector.

The computing discipline that is responsible for the operation of this type of device is called natural language processing (NLP). It converts human speech into computer code, enabling language recognition and automatic translation.
