The Government distinguishes the puntCAT Foundation with the Saint George’s Cross
The puntCAT Foundation has received the Saint George’s Cross in acknowledgement of its work in promoting the .cat domain and for having promoted Catalan culture and the normalisation of the use of Catalan on the Internet.
This morning, the spokesperson for the Generalitat de Catalunya, Elsa Artadi, announced the list of winning personalities and institutions of the 2018 Saint George’s Cross. Among the awarded institutions is the puntCAT Foundation, which has received the Saint George’s Cross in acknowledgement of its work in promoting the .cat domain and for having promoted Catalan culture and the normalisation of the use of Catalan in information and communications technologies.
“It is an honour to receive the Saint George’s Cross. We are especially excited about this acknowledge, as it values the institution as a benchmark in promoting Catalan culture on the internet”, said Carles Salvadó, chairman of the puntCAT Foundation.
This year’s Saint George’s Cross awards had been suspended by the Spanish government following the application of Article 155 and had not been presented.
This year, a total of 31 personalities and 24 institutions have been awarded the Saint George’s Cross. It is one of the utmost acknowledgements that an individual or institution can received from the Generalitat de Catalunya, which values and highlights the promoting of and attending to Catalan identity.
The awards were created in 1981 to distinguish individuals or institutions to have provided noteworthy services to the country.
