The Fundació .cat beats with a new heartbeat

The reality of Catalan on the Internet is the result of a great deal of effort, hard work and even more creativity. Thanks to the constant and often silent dedication of many users, a medium-sized language such as Catalan enjoys a relatively good situation on the Internet.

WICCAC (the Association of Independent Webmasters in Catalan, Culture and Civic Areas) produces a monthly barometer of the use of Catalan on the Internet. According to the latest barometer published in April 2022, 66.12% of the 3542 websites analysed that offer services or products in the Catalan-speaking countries (including those not based in Catalan-speaking territories) have a Catalan-language version.

This reality of the normalisation of the use of Catalan on the Internet is the result of the sum of all the grains of sand contributed by society. Just as millions of pixels make up a photograph; millions of zeros and ones, millions of bits that speak Catalan on the Internet form a consolidated community that moves at an innovative pace and beats with determination.

The Fundació .cat, as the custodian of the fundamental grain of sand that is the .cat domain, makes it easier for more and more bits to join this great community. With a total of 113,686 .cat domains in 2021, the Fundació .cat is working to promote even more the use of Catalan on the net.
