Fundació .cat expresses its total opposition to Spain’s National Court (Audiencia Nacional) ordering Spanish telecommunications companies to block access to the TsunamiDemocràtic.cat domain page.
While other European citizens can freely access it, Spain has adopted certain methods that are more typical of countries in which democracy and fundamental rights are not their distinguishing features.
The president of the Consortium for Linguistic Normalisation (CPNL), Ester Franquesa, and the president of Fundació .cat, Carles Salvadó, have signed a collaboration agreement designed to encourage the use of Catalan in digital environments in local businesses and enterprises.
The objective of the agreement is to increase the presence of Catalan in business websites by means of joint awareness-raising sessions of an informative as well as executive nature, with a particular focus on online linguistic resources.
“Desprotegides, malgrat tot” (Unprotected, despite everything) is an in-depth report based on investigative journalism that uses public data to prove that the financial resources invested in eradicating violence against women are nowhere near enough. This report has been possible thanks to the collaboration of Fundació .cat, the partner digitally supporting the entire process.

On World Internet day, Fundació .cat presented the Annual observatory of the .cat domain. This study is an infographic analysis of the most relevant data of the domain over the past year and provides the evolution of .cat since 2005, the year in which it was created.
The study was presented at the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (Official Association of Architects of Catalonia) to the main players of .cat (the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, registrars, organisations from the sector, and the Authorities, among others).
In order to promote the use of the .cat domain as much as possible, which has been adopted by the Acadèmia del Cinema Català in its web environment since it was established and in all its projects and applications, Fundació .cat is to offer a special package to members of the academy that includes a two-year registration of a .cat domain, along with other beneficial services at a competitive price that is accessible to all our film professionals.
The Foundation also agrees to provide support and specialist training to members of the Academy that adopt the .cat domain through this agreement, with regard to SEO management, content curation, traffic sources and web analytics tools.
On 28 January, the .cat Foundation opened the call for projects aimed at those non-profit organisations in need of funding to develop projects with a digital content or structure. A total of 102 organisations filed 111 projects within the deadline set by the call, of which 83 fulfilled the requirements set out in the grants’ terms and conditions. The profiles of these organisations vary greatly: they range from organisations promoting Catalan to universities that are committed to technological innovation; from associations promoting Catalan traditions to foundations working in the field of art and design.
The award ceremony of Vinton Cerf’s Premi Internacional Catalunya (International Catalonia Prize), which will be held today at 7 p.m. at the Palau de la Generalitat (the Catalan government seat), highlights the work carried out by Vinton in the field of the Internet and the key role he played in the approval of the .cat domain in 2005. The winner has donated part of the amount of this award to the PuntCAT Foundation for it to foster the promotion of Catalan on the Internet in the Catalan-speaking regions, as has been carried out so far, as well as to keep being a success model for the rest of first-level cultural domains that have been created after the .cat domain.
This morning, the spokesperson for the Generalitat de Catalunya, Elsa Artadi, announced the list of winning personalities and institutions of the 2018 Saint George’s Cross. Among the awarded institutions is the .cat Foundation, which has received the Saint George’s Cross in acknowledgement of its work in promoting the .cat domain and for having promoted Catalan culture and the normalisation of the use of Catalan in information and communications technologies.
